Before Superman, before Batman, before the Marvel Universe as we know it was just a twinkle in Stan Lee's eye, there was the Shadow. His wildly popular adventures dominated radio airwaves, pulp magazines, dime store novels, and finally, the comics. Once Street and Smith, publishers of the Shadow and other famous pulps, realized that comics were the next big thing, they quickly threw their signature character into the new medium. The comics were packed with the same rich illustrations and muscular plotting that characterized their line of best-selling fiction magazines.
