Saruman, the man who was sent to challenge Sauron, was ultimately corrupted by his thirst for power. Saruman is one of the great villains in The Lord of the Rings, and the controller of the palantir of Orthanc until Aragorn gained possession of it. The stone is partially responsible for Saruman s dissent into darknes. He uses it to manipulate others, and seeks to become all powerful.

The Brothers magnificently captured the dark and dangerous tones of this scene. Saruman is completely absorbed in what he sees through the palantir, but one does not need to be a fan of Tolkien's work to know that this character is up to no good!

Published by Ballantine Books. Acrylic on board. Created by Greg and Tim Hildebrandt in 1977. Signed by Greg and Tim Hildebrandt. FRAMED: 32 x 43
