The Metropolis Survey

Dear Customers,

I finally saw Daredevil…and unlike most of the reviews I read I really liked it. I thought I would be very disappointed but instead had a great time. Last week I took my wife to see it and guess what… she really liked it too. Although Spider-Man is my favorite character and I enjoyed the Spider-Man Movie I actually liked the D.D. Movie more. I believe much of my enjoyment came from not expecting much from D.D. In fact I would go so far as to say I was expecting it to be un-watchable whereas I was expecting so much from Spider-Man. I think D.D. was a fun movie to watch. The pacing was excellent whereas I felt Spidey dragged on a little bit. I also felt the writing was rather clever and the acting better than what I expected. Ben Affleck did a very good job as Matt Murdock and D.D. and I am not a big fan of his. I am most definitely looking forward to the sequel. I hope you all enjoyed Daredevil as much as I did and for those who didn’t I hope X-Men II is more your cup of tea. I saw several trailers before D.D. among them X-Men II which looks amazing, Kill Bill which also looked great and Hulk which I still think looks like a cartoon superimposed over live action…. hopefully I will be as wrong about the Hulk as I was about D.D.

Now to the really important question- how has this effected the prices and demand for Daredevil. While I have not seen the same level of increase in prices compared with what happened with the Spider-Man Movie, there has been some movement. Prices on high grade Daredevil #1s and early issues have appreciated. Overall demand for Miller issues has increased and people are buying reader copies of all issues. Daredevil sales over the last month included #1 G/VG $240.00, #1 CGC Graded VG 4.0 $325.00, #2 VG+ $108.00, #10 VG+ $34.00, #19 VF $38.00, #23 VF+ $36.00, #77 CGC Graded NM 9.4 $135.00, #127 VF/NM $8.00, #160 CGC Graded NM+ 9.6 $83.00, #176 CGC Graded NM+ 9.6 $26.00 and #182 CGC Graded NM/MT 9.8 $46.00.

In spite of a sagging economy sales for February 2003 exceeded those of 2002 of the same month. And while I have seen some slow down in high grade Silver Age Marvel prices (mostly in auctions) I have still been making exceptional sales like X-Men #2, #3 and #4 all in CGC graded NM 9.4 condition. I also recently sold one of the finest runs of Journey Into Mystery from #84-#112 in grades ranging from 9.0 to 9.6. Included in this run were copies of issues 86, 87, 95, 96, 97, 99 and 100 in CGC graded 9.6 NM+ condition and issues 84, 85, 88, 90, 92, 93, 94, 98, 99, 100, 111, and 112 in CGC graded NM 9.4 condition. Other CGC graded Marvel Silver Age sales included Amazing Spider-Man #3 9.0, #6 9.4, #13 9.2, Fantastic Four #48 9.0, Incredible Hulk #1 9.0 and #181 9.6. I am extremely excited about these recent acquisitions and sales and look forward to continued success with Silver Age Marvels.

If any of you are currently looking to build a high grade Silver Age Marvel, DC collection (or any other publisher for that matter), please send me your want list. I am serious about tracking down books you are looking for and have many excellent sources.

I hope you enjoy this month’s site update which will include hundreds of new high grade Silver Age DC titles like Flash and Justice League of America as well as a large group of Mile High Comics- these are truly amazing!

Enjoy,

Sincerely,

Vincent Zurzolo
