How about that Super Bowl! What a great game…what a strange half time show…
2004 is starting off where 2003 left off and then some. Sales on Golden Age keys in all grades, restored and unrestored, are at an all time high. At the last Big Apple Convention I had a wall display filled with about ten Batman #1s. One customer commented that the Batman #1s looked like a museum display. I was very quick to reply that I always keep a very high level of Bat #1s in stock because they sell so well. In fact since the New Year began I have sold 3 copies-1 unrestored and 2 restored. Apart from that I have sold 2 Superman #1s-1 unrestored and 1 restored. January is usually a good month for comic sales, but this January has been exceptionally good. January 2004 has exceeded the last 3 years of sales by at least 10% each year.
Hottest Silver Age title right now would have to be Journey into Mystery. Issues between 83 and 125 are on fire. I have been selling issues from F/VF to NM for high premiums. If anybody has any in high grade put them on consignment with me- I will get you great prices!
The Big Apple Convention was a solid show. I wish it were a one-day event as I really treasure my weekends, but hey I only had to travel a 1/2 hour to get to the show and I did get to meet some of the best collectors in the country. The crowds were great and buyers were serious. I sold a variety of misc. Golden Age, Spider-Man #1 and a really nice Batman #47. I was also able to try out my new Flex-All Displays which worked perfectly- thanks Gary!
For any of you who buy on ebay please be careful and avoid at all costs a seller named Richard Koos (aka Danny Dupcak) who goes by "Comic-Keys" on ebay. This man has been auctioning off restored books as unrestored books bilking unsuspecting comic collectors of thousands upon thousands of dollars. I have had many collectors tell me they will no longer buy from ebay sellers because of fraud and unfair return policies. As an ebay buyer who has been ripped off on many occasions I can sympathize.
My online radio show "The Comic Zone" has been coming along very nicely. I have had so many great guests over the last two months.
