Metropolis Collectibles is simply tickled to present the MIGHTY MARVEL MANIAC COLLECTION, a selection of treats and treasures from the House of Ideas, lovingly assembled by a fanatical Marvelite over many years, and featuring nearly every Silver, Bronze, and Copper appearance of their beloved Hulk and Thing -- PLUS nearly complete runs of Spidey and Thor besides! PLUS! X-Men, Marvel Team-Ups, assorted Marvel lunacy, and a handful of those nutty trade paperbacks, anthologies, and tabloid treasuries that made many a childhood simply Marvel-ous!
"This was a really fun collection to get and sort through," said Metro Sales Director Frank Cwiklik, shouting to be heard over the din of Doom and Hulk having a heated argument over whether Picard could take Kirk in a steel cage match. "This was a work of real love put together by a true fan, in the old school way, just building runs of his favorite heroes, reading them once and putting them away, lovingly looking through them every now and then to see the changes that his favorite characters went through over the years. In all the frenzy over highest graded, top prices, market trends and all that, it was really touching and refreshing to see a collection whose main attribute was the love that went into it. We could have sold off the keys right away and broken off the cheaper books into runs, but I just didn't have the heart to do it."
"We knew we had to keep it all together, so our guys spent a lot of time sorting, grading, and pricing it old-style, and slabbing some of the better material," continued Metro COO Vincent Zurzolo, as Ben "Thing" Grimm angrily hurled the mighty Thor through a plate glass window, enraged that Thor would not accept Patrick Troughton as Best Doctor Ever. "We also knew that the August Wizard show was, hands down, the best place to showcase the collection, as it's where we have the most new buyers and the most old-school collectors who don't want to fight over hyper-priced books, but just build a great collection of awesome material."
"We've been trying for some time to get back to the roots of the business and welcome in the new buyers who are excited by the explosion in vintage comics buying, but are working on a budget," added Cwiklik, ducking a 2010 Mazda Miata hurled angrily by Juggernaut upon discovering that the deli was out of pastrami. "This collection will be perfect for first-time collectors who want in on the Marvel action, but can't get near the big ticket items. It's also got a number of key issues that serious collectors will surely dive on hungrily, so it's got something for everyone!"
A small number of books are still in the process of slabbing at CBCS, or are still being processed by our overworked and simply exhausted graders, but the vast majority of the collection is now IS LIVE on the site AT THIS LINK, and is available right now at the Wizard World Chicago con floor! The remaining pieces will be added as we process them, so if there are books you don't see, or if you have a Marvel want list, contact us today at [email protected]!
