Heavily drawing upon the monster movies of the 1950s, Stan Lee and Jack Kirby brought Ant-Man into the Marvel Universe, with superhero scientist Henry Pym debuting in Tales to Astonish #27. This story even plays more like the sci-fi classic The Incredible Shrinking Man. Ant-Man wouldn’t acquire his iconic costume or proper origin until issue #35, but readers loved him all the same. This book has always been a favorite among collectors, but has recently seen an explosion in demand and value — due largely to Paul Rudd's work as Ant-Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
