Jack Kirby cover, 1st meeting of Spider-Man & some Avengers (1st met Iron Man in issue #3), 2nd app of Kang the Conqueror & Wonder ManStan Lee revived and redefined the concept of the team-up book in earlier issues of the Avengers, here Lee keeps the fire lit under his new title by adding a fan favorite, Spider-Man, who is prominently featured on the cover. Already a megastar by this point, Spidey never failed to bring flocks of dedicated readers along when appearing in other titles, and this was no exception. Jack Kirby drafted one of his few images of the teenage wallcrawler on this rare treat of a cover. Older readers may have been appalled to see their friendly neighborhood Spider-Man get top billing over Captain America, but, hey, it was the 60s and the times, they were a-changin.'
