atomic explosion panel; Wood, Kamen art; EC ComicsBill Gaines, Al Feldstein, Wally Wood, Marie Severin, Joe Orlando, and Jack Kamen are all names that have held a lasting place in the comic book hall of fame, it was this core group that put together Weird Fantasy #11. There were a few other luminaries on staff at EC, names like Harvey Kurtzman, Gene Colan, Johnny Craig, Basil Wolverton, Joe Kubert, and of course Frank Frazetta, that comprised the Murderer’s Row that made the scrappy publisher the legend it is today. This issue veers into horror territory more than earlier entries into the run, quite possibly thanks to the realization that grisly tales of murder and crime were selling like hotcakes. The usual high-quality art and storytelling are all on display in this issue, showing off the consistency and talent that kept this company in business long after the censors sicced the hounds on the industry.
