Flash Comics #86 became an instant collectible with the first appearance of
Black Canary — as originally created by Robert Kanigher and Carmine Infantino as a fun
femme fatale to bedevil the lovably dim Johnny Thunder. The creative team were pretty happy to see Black Canary eventually replace Johnny Thunder in the DC Universe. (The saucy criminal was revealed to secretly be a crimefighter as she became Johnny's frequent partner, eventually taking over for him in the Justice Society of America.) Over 70 years later, Black Canary remains one of the most enduring heroines of the DC Universe. Also of note to collectors: that wild Lee Elias dinosaur cover! Dinosaurs are awesome.
