WHAT PEOPLE ARE SAYING
"Metropolis has an unbelievable selection of comics! Best of all, I know I can trust Metropolis' grading, and will always get what I pay for when it comes to condition."
- Jeffrey W., Esq, New York The Metropolis Survey
In a career spanning nearly four decades, Marvel editor, writer, and scholar Ralph Macchio has accumulated not only a body of work that touches practically every corner of the Marvel universe, but also a nearly unmatched and impressive collection of hundreds of pieces of original art spanning the bulk of his career.
In the Bronze Age, Marvel was in the habit of doling out original artwork after publication by splitting pages between artists and writers on a book – the artists would receive the bulk of the original art, while the writer would receive a few pages at the discretion of the illustrator. As an editor and a full-time staff member of the mighty Marvel bullpen, Macchio had the chance to tackle assignments on a wide assortment of books, leading him to collaborate with a variety of respected draftsmen and write for practically every character extant during the Bronze era.
This extraordinary collection is the result. Macchio had the chance to cut his teeth at the same time some of comics’ most famous artists were just making names for themselves, leading to an astounding selection of early work from giants such as George Perez, John Byrne, Michael Nasser, John Romita Jr, and stunning examples of the craftsmanship of industry veterans such as Gene Colan and Sal Buscema. Featuring images of major Marvel heroes such as Spider-Man, Doctor Strange, Daredevil, the Fantastic Four, and others, this selection also boasts pages from the cult favorite Marvel Comics Super Special 5, starring KISS. Gathered during one of Marvel’s most fruitful periods, this incredible selection is available publicly for the first time in this auction. We are proud to offer the art of the Ralph Macchio Marvel Masterworks Collection.
Bidding for these items begin February 25th and end Monday, March 18th from 7PM - 12AM EDT.
