Dear Valued Customers,
The end of the year is upon us once again. 2002 has been a very strong year for comic books. Record prices have been realized and Metropolis has filled a record number of orders from comic fans. We have been working diligently to further develop our web site to appeal to as wide a variety of comic collector’s interests. Our discounted section is increasing each month. For those of you wanting to simply read a favorite story or the trials and tribulations of a character you want to know better we hope the discounted prices assist you in this endeavor.
Before I merged companies with Steve I must admit I really concentrated on main stream comic books. It never ceases to amaze me how many collectors buy comics other than Timely, DC or Marvel (to name a few of the "mainstream titles"). After reviewing this month’s sales figures I can see a vast variety of titles purchased. December has been particularly good for Disney, Four Color, Looney Tunes, Bringing Up Father, Buster Brown, Cerebus, Classic Comics, Crack Comics, Crime Detective, Dark Shadows, Mutt & Jeff, Sad Sack, and Terry and the Pirates. From this group you can see the diversity of interests comic collectors have. This is not to say that Metropolis did not sell a large group of the usual suspects like Batman, Spider-Man, Superman and the like but it is something to take notice of. Often times so much emphasis is put on how many multiples a near mint CGC graded Spider-Man #1 sells for that we lose sight of immense number of titles people collect.
While I have often advised people to collect what they like, I would like to add, try something new every once in awhile. You never know you may enjoy reading a new title. This advice is not exclusive to collectors and can be utilized by investors as well. Instead of investing in only one title it may be a good strategy to spread your money around into a variety of titles. When you put your money into the stock market you are usually told not to put all of your eggs into one basket, the same applies with comics. I think a well diversified comic book portfolio can be very beneficial in the long run. If any of you have any questions about this strategy please feel free to call me at 800-229-6387 or to email me at [email protected]
