PURCHASING BIG TICKET ITEMS ON THE INCREASE
While many collectors and dealers are focused on the Silver Age Marvel market I have been seeing tremendous interest in Golden Age keys. Collectors and investors alike are buying up Action 1, Detective 1, 27, Batman 1, Green Lantern 1, Wonder Woman 1, Sensation 1, Captain America 1, All American 16, All Winners 1, All Star 1, 3, 8, Worlds Best 1 and Superman #1. It is interesting to see these books selling in a variety of grades.
From low to high grade, each collector has a different reason for buying their chosen treasures. Whether it be a fond childhood memory, part of a run they have been working on for years or strictly for investment purposes purchasing these big ticket items is on the increase. Many often mention the low interest rates they are receiving on their money in their savings account.
This is not just a Metropolis phenomenon. I have spoken to several other dealers and they are experiencing the same thing. They sight similar reasons for the increase.
I believe this trend will continue at least as long as interest rates are low and people want to recapture a small piece of their youth.
Another trend I have noticed is the difficulty I am having acquiring certain high-grade Marvel and DC keys. It is increasingly difficult to find books like X-Men #1, Hulk 1, Fantastic Four #1, Green Lantern 1 (SA), and Brave and the Bold #28 and Showcase #22 in VF/NM or better condition. Until next month Happy Comic Hunting!
